We would like to take this opportunity to clarify the process around students receiving detentions for late, unexplained or truant absences.

If students are late or have unexplained absences they will receive an email detention alert. They then have one week to correct the non-attendance if an error has been made, either by talking to the relevant teacher or bringing an explanatory note from home and giving it to Student Services. If the non-attendance is not corrected then a detention will be issued by the Kaitiaki. 

Detentions normally run on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes - sometimes they can also be held on Wednesday lunchtimes if either of the other two days happens not to be a school day. Students will receive a note during Period 4 informing them of the detention and where to go. If the student chooses not to attend on the two separate occasions then they will be issued with an after school detention.
