Football Girls First XI

Amira Abaza 13EM —

This season was a huge step up for every one of the girls in the team.

We did so well last season that we pushed ourselves into the Premier division, which hadn’t happened in four years of girls football at Riccarton High, making it an awesome achievement.

Throughout the season we had a couple of losses, but that didn’t show at all during tournament as we started on a high, played consistently, always stayed positive and never gave up as a team.

I couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls to be standing next to on the field. Winning our first game at the NZ Secondary Schools Football Tournament in Ashburton 2-1 against St Kevin’s really boosted us up for the rest of the tournament and pulled us through to the top eight where we fought until the very end.

We would like to say a massive thanks to Sharon Allpress for coaching us all season, Andrew Regaldo for managing the team, and Nicky Exton, who also helped manage us as well as coaching the Second XI girls. Also a big thanks to the Second XI girls who helped fill in when we needed players.
