Senior subject selection process for 2018
It is time for students currently in Years 10 to 12 to apply for their senior courses for next year.
Over the next few days, we will email home a letter which details the subject selection application process and also reports on each student’s career development interview.
Riccarton High School is one of very few schools where all students have a career development interview every year.
In these interviews students outline the career pathways they are currently investigating and the subjects which best prepare for those pathways.
These are a useful starting point when choosing next year’s subjects.
Subject selection is done online and must be completed by Friday 15 September.
The information parents and students will receive includes how to complete this process and a reminder of parent/caregiver log-in and password information. It might also be a good time for parents to review senior students’ NCEA achievement so far this year.
We are holding a second Student Achievement Interview Day on Thursday 14 September. We’ve timed this interview day to provide feedforward for students preparing for NCEA external exams and to coincide with 2018 subject selection. Teachers will be happy to discuss future pathways in their subjects at these interviews.
There is another article in this newsletter which details how to make interview bookings.
We will review the all the 2018 subject applications and our Deans will contact any students who have been denied entry to a subject to help them through the process of choosing alternatives.
Students currently in Year 9 will make their choices for 2018 Year 10 options in Term 4. Year 9 students are currently in their third, of four, subject rotations in Arts and Technology so we wait until they have experienced all four subjects in these areas before asking them to choose for next year. We will contact parents and caregivers when the time comes.
