2024 WINTER TOURNAMENT WEEK
The Winter Tournament week of 2024 began on Monday, September 2nd. Our school's Football, Hockey, Badminton, and Netball teams took part in the South Island Competitions, alongside one student who competed in Fencing.
Our hockey and basketball teams travelled to Ashburton, while the remaining teams participated in competitions in Christchurch. Basketball commenced on Wednesday, with Rock Climbing on Thursday and Orienteering on Saturday.
It was a huge week for sport at Riccarton and all of our athletes represented our kura so well, demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship and skill. Feedback from various referees and coaches commended the exemplary conduct and performance of our students during the competitions.
The hockey team demonstrated resilience and skill during challenging matches, despite being a young team. They achieved a commendable 14th place in the competition.
The Netball Girls had an amazing week at Nga Puna Wai, where they showed incredible progress and unity as a team. They achieved a fantastic 27th place in B grade, highlighting their hard work and dedication.
The Badminton Boys showcased their incredible skills in both doubles and singles matches, achieving different rankings during the event. They played numerous games each day with great enthusiasm and determination. Their hustle and passion for the sport were truly inspiring to witness!
Basketball Girls played some tough teams in their pool and came away with 7th overall.
The Basketball Boys had an outstanding tournament, finishing 5th out of 20 teams despite only losing one game! This year, we bid farewell to our amazing 4 Year 13 players who have played a significant role in the team's development at Riccarton. Their contributions will be cherished.
Our climbers had both a boys and girls team in the competition this year and managed to climb through injury and compete at a high level over both days.
Our Orienteering team made history as the first Y10 orienteering team at Riccarton! They successfully completed both events with impressive speed and skill.
Our talented fencing student achieved a fantastic 9th place in the individual competition and an
impressive 3rd place in the team event! What an amazing accomplishment!
Well done to everyone who took part! Keep up the fantastic effort and continue to reach for your goals. Congratulations to all participants!
