Biology goes Wild!

Ruby L & Selina K —

On February 24, the Level 3 Biology classes were fortunate enough to visit Christchurch's Orana Wildlife Park.

Orana Wildlife Park is home to over 1000 animals representing more than 90 different species.  The team at Orana strive to make significant conservation contributions, and are committed to ensuring they deliver learning experiences that will be socially, environmentally and culturally relevant.

Budding RHS Biologists were challenged to learn and understand different ways in which animal behaviour could be observed and that data collected.

The weather was great, which meant all students could spend the second part of the day doing some initial observations on the various animals they were considering studying.

While the recent COVID-19 cases have meant we have not been back yet, we are really looking forward to two more days at Orana Wildlife Park, keeping the gorgeous wildlife company and collecting the data required in order to answer the behavioural questions that have been set for us.
