On Tuesday 5th July, ten Year 12 students attended the Emerging Leaders Conference at Christs College.

They joined over 500 Year 12 students from all over Canterbury. The keynote speaker, Abbas Nazari, was a highlight for the students with his inspirational talk about how he came to New Zealand as a refugee after having to flee Afghanistan at eight years old.

The students enjoyed hearing from a wide range of speakers about leadership, including Jake Bailey of Boys High School, who overcome cancer in 2015, to Brendan Dooley, an international Comedy Magician.

Akonga enjoyed meeting like-minded students from different schools and another highlight was the kai which was provided.

The students represented Riccarton with pride and felt inspired when we debriefed the day on our way back to school.
