Farid Tashakkor – Upper Riccarton School & Community Library — August 24, 2022
This year there will be two workshops to celebrate the International Day of Peace from the Baha’i perspective.
The Baha'i international community (BIC) is a non-governmental organisation representing the Baha'i Faith with significant offices at the New York and Geneva branches of the United Nations (as well as in Brussels, Jakarta, Addis Ababa). It enjoys consultative status with the UN Economic Social Council; UN Children’s Fund; WHO, UN Development Fund for Women; and UN Environment Program. It works to promote world peace by applying Baha'i principles to develop a united and sustainable civilisation.
The BIC focuses on the advancement of human rights, the advancement of women, universal education, economic development, and the protection of the environment. It will be clear from these areas of focus that the Baha'i community regards world peace as being more than just an end to war (but also has practical guidelines as to how that can be realised). The short talk will present some of these ideas and will welcome related questions.
Following the talk, we will
enjoy one or two communal art activities to experience the constructive peace
that arises when diverse people work together in harmony.
