Holiday Sporting Achievements

RHS students have been busy achieving greatness during the recent school holidays.

Flynn Morgan

Flynn raced in the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland during the holidays.  His grade consisted of some of the best U17 riders in Australia and New Zealand.  Unfortunately, Flynn's race didn't quite go to plan due to not "fuelling the tank correctly".  He has now set his sights on being selected for the canterbury U19/Elite team for track cycling.   Well done Flynn.

Alyssa Whinham

After attending a New Zealand U17 Women's Football Development Camp during the recent school holidays,  Alyssa Whinham was selected for the New Zealand U17 Women's World Cup qualifying team to play in Tahiti in December.  Congratulations Alyssa.

Sam Weir

During the weekend of October 4th to 6th,  mountain bikers from around New Zealand met at Signal Hill in Dunedin.  Riders from a number of schools were pitting themselves against one another in the secondary schools Mountain Bike Nationals for 2019.  Sam Weir (11WS) represented Riccarton High in the Under 17 boys in all three events; Enduro, Downhill (DH) and Cross Country (XC). Sam was stoked to place 3rd in the DH for U17 boys. The DH race was held in challenging conditions with rain on and off right throughout the day. A slippery course ensured the competitors needed good technical skills as well as a great deal of nerve. A solid result in the Enduro race gave Sam 7th place. The cross country was not really Sam's go but he got there! Over the 3 events, on a points system, Sam placed 4th for his age group.

Awesome work Sam
