Welcome to the 2016 school year.

Coming to school and arriving at school on time are the first steps in succeeding.

The first invoice will be emailed to every family in the school community shortly.

The purpose of the PTA is to create a close association between parents and the school.

The Riccarton High School Library is very different from any other in New Zealand. We have partnered with Christchurch City Libraries to offer a joint-use library for our school and the community of Upper Riccarton to share together.

It is fun and rewarding to improve in things, whether they be sports or musical instruments.

The school has a clear set of evacuation procedures to follow in the event of an emergency e.g. fire or earthquake. These are practised at least once a term.

Host families are needed for our international students for 2017 and beyond.

The Riccarton High School PTA warmly invite you to a talk by Professor Doug Sellman on the science of addiction, on Tuesday 5 April at 7:30pm in the School Hall.

Sarah Hunter (11WA) has just returned from Invercargill where she was competing at the 2016 Division 2 New Zealand National Swim Competition.

This year is election year for school boards of trustees. In coming months, you will be asked to choose the people who will oversee the education of your children for the next three years.

At Riccarton High School reports are issued to all students at specific points in the year. These will be sent by email and printed copies will be sent where we have no email address for students’ parents and caregivers.

The 2016 Rotary National Science and Technology Forum took place in January, and Shelley Li was very fortunate to be one of 168 Year 12 students from the across the country to attend. Here is her account of the forum.

Riccarton entered two teams in the regional NZYPT (New Zealand Young Physicist Tournament) competition this year. 

This popular event, held at the prestigious McLeans Island Equestrian Centre, with 30 teams competing from all over Canterbury, resulted in another fine effort by our Riccarton High equestrians.

The Kokiri programme for 2016 is up and running. Four Year 10 classes have already travelled across to the West Coast and stayed at the Lodge.

Congratulations to our students who achieved NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Excellence.

A reminder to all our families that if you pay your donation by 31st March 2016 you are eligible to claim a reimbursement in the current year’s tax return. 

Congratulations to Mark Randall (12NP) who completed his Silver award towards the end of 2015. Silver involves a 6 month commitment in all sections.

Singing in the choir is great. You get to sing on stage, learn new music, make heaps of friends and go on trips.

Each year, Riccarton High School organises a day to get some extra work done around the school – and for this we need your help.

The Step-Up Programme reinforces the Riccarton Way values and aims to develop and continue good work and study habits.

There is a lot of information and important links on the SharePoint Intranet that could be of interest to parents and students.

Learning Support is located in B Block. The Learning Support office/staffroom is on the right as you come into the building behind Mr Biddick’s sports office. There are also classrooms (B3 and B5), a tutor room and a Learning Support room (B2) in this area.
