Introducing our head students
This is going to be a most challenging and exciting year for the two of us.
Visit this articleWelcome to the new year and a special welcome to our new students, families and staff members. You have now begun what I am sure will be a very exciting, fulfilling and successful association with Riccarton High School.
I trust that you all managed to have a relaxing break over the summer despite some inclement weather at times!
In between dangling the fishing rod into the waters of the Marlborough Sounds and being bombarded with the media frenzy surrounding Trump’s inauguration, I managed to spend a bit of time catching up on some reading. I found Richie McCaw's book ‘148’ truly inspirational. Reflecting on close to 150 test matches, McCaw talks quite candidly about his time as an All Black and as an All Black captain. Specifically, he talks about: the commitment required at the top level, to be the best that one can be and the respect he had towards his opponents, before describing in a very honest fashion, the pressures placed on him to produce the results that the New Zealand public demanded. Certainly a great read that nicely reflects the key values of the Riccarton Way.
For those who are new to the school, you will soon realise that we are proud of the huge contribution our students make towards the sporting and cultural elements of the school, as well as our high academic results (and our provisional results from 2016 are no exception). We also pride ourselves on the efforts we make in building responsible well rounded young men and women with a strong focus on Te Wairua o Putaringamotu - the Riccarton Way - and its associated values of commitment, honesty, respect and excellence.
As we begin a new year, I remind our student community that it is important that they make the most of the opportunities presented to them during their time at Riccarton High School and that they go looking for opportunities that embrace our school motto: ‘disce ut prosis’- learn that you may be of service.
I look forward to meeting you throughout the year.
In the meantime, any immediate concerns or questions should be directed to your child’s Dean:
