3Bio goes to Orana Wildlife Park

Both Level 3 Biology classes have recently completed their animal behaviour studies at Orana Wildlife Park involving one training day late last term, and two days this term, observing their chosen animal.

Animals studied this year include: kea, spider monkey, gorilla, meerkats, orang-utan, emu, rhinoceros, cheetah, springbok, bison and giraffe. A range of behaviours were studied, and a number of these studies will be used by Orana staff to evaluate management of these animals and make improvements where needed - an example of real science in action!

The 3Bio classes will be going to Orana Wildlife Park again later this year, this time to look at their long-distant relatives as part of the learning about human evolution.
