Carmen Holdaway (left) and Sarah Gillespie (right) were selected for the St John Youth South Island squad again this year.
The two have been training and continuing to develop their first aid skills most weekends since January.
In the Term 1 holidays, they competed at the National St John Youth Festival which was held at Eden Park in Auckland.
The girls performed well in a range of communication and first-responder scenarios, picking up trophies and placings, and helping the South Island to win the coveted title of Champion Region once again.
Sarah has recently been named as the Canterbury District Cadet of the Year, while Carmen has been selected to represent New Zealand in the four-person team that will compete at the International Cadet Competition at Capetown, South Africa in January 2020.
