Year 8 Day at Riccarton High School

On Friday the 5th of May, Riccarton High School opened its door to over 200 year 8’s from surrounding feeder schools.

The students were able to participate in everyday high school subjects and experience what will be available for them to pursue when they come to high school.

Fun activities were organised by the teachers from our learning areas: Physical Education, Technology,  Science, Social Studies, Arts (Drama, Music, Dance and Art), English, Mathematics and Languages.

The timetable for the day was jam-packed, starting off with an assembly and a spectacular performance from our student based Kapa Haka group, to welcome all of the primary students into Riccarton High School.

The year 8’s were then split into groups, and each group visited three learning areas over the course of the day.

The feedback that Riccarton High received from the Year 8 students was overwhelming. Most of the students felt more comfortable with what once was the daunting idea of high school.

We enjoyed meeting the students from our local schools and are looking forward to seeing them again at the beginning of 2020 as apart of the Riccarton High School Whanau.
