Angus Gourlay at IPC by Orion Chau

Coordinator by Day, International Sports Representative by Night

Angus Gourlay, our RHS Sports Coordinator, represented Canterbury in the Senior Men's Volleyball Interprovisional Championships and is currently playing overseas, representing New Zealand.

Held in Wellington over Queens Birthday weekend, Canterbury placed second overall and Angus was named in the tournament team - a small group of players selected from all players over the entire competition, who showed outstanding performance in all aspects of the game.

Angus also plays on the international stage.  Currently, he is in Tahiti with the New Zealand National Senior Men’s Volleyball Team competing against Tahiti’s national volleyball team.  The New Zealand team have high hopes of beating Tahiti in a 3 game series.

Angus has multiple personal sporting goals in mind.  One of his goals includes continuing to play competitively and win a national club title for his volleyball club, Pioneer.

After his playing days are over he would like to spend more time coaching. “It’s a good way to give back to the sport that you’ve played and loved”.

A big part of Angus’ role in our school is to organise transport, coaches and managers for our teams.  He believes sport is extremely important for children and his work reflects that - “Sports strengthens the relationship between teachers and students, helps them stay in school and develop key team working skills.”  We are grateful for all the hard work Angus puts in for our school and it's students and we are proud to support his sporting efforts and achievements.

Here are a few clips of him playing during the Queen’s birthday tournament, keep an eye on #33!
