March 2021 Newsletter

Kia ora tātou

To our new whānau, a warm welcome to he Riccarton High School family. To those who have been with us in previous years, welcome back! We all start 2021 with a renewed sense of hope and anticipation while in the background, we deal with alert level changes, continued border restrictions, but also, on the positive side, vaccine rollouts.

Thank you for choosing Riccarton High School. We have a dedicated, passionate team of teachers and support staff who genuinely believe in our vision of being a 'forward thinking school aiming to prepare our diverse student community for a rapidly changing world by equipping theme with the relevant skills, a global perspective and the ability to embrace our core values associated with the Riccarton Way'.

Effective communication is obviously an important aspect in our relationship with parents and whanau and this works both ways. In terms of the ways in which we communicate with our community, we use a range of media and this will depend on the nature of the message, target audience, urgency and scale of the message. Primarily, we communicate through our formal newsletter at least twice a term. These newsletters will be emailed to both caregivers email addresses listed in your contact details. Newsletters will also be posted on our school website.

in addition to our school Facebook page, which keeps you up to date with a range of events, our student-run Media and Advertising Division (MAD), here at Riccarton High School have their own social media communication tools and they will ensure that you are aware of these as the year progresses.

Parents and whanau are encouraged to communicate directly with teaching staff for matters directly relating to classroom learning and are reminded that we have a significant support network including your child's whānau teacher, Kaitiaki (Dean), Counsellors and Deputy Principals. You can find the email addresses for our key staff on our website.

I look forward to catching up with you soon.

Level 2 Commerce field trip to Wellington

by Karen Browning

Although it was advertised as part of the 2 Acc and 2 Eco courses, we've unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to cancel our 2021 trip. Co-vid 19 is a sneaky little beast and, as recent events have shown, our national response can change overnight.
