Academic Excellence Level 2
Congratulations to our students who achieved NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Excellence.
Visit this articleDear parents and caregivers
Term 1 is certainly marching on, and I am pleased to report that our school roll for 2017 is a very healthy one. As at 1 March, we had 1070 students including those in the International Department. It is fantastic to see our community supporting their local school and we look forward to continuing or developing a positive and rewarding partnership with you all.
Our recent Academic Assembly acknowledged some excellent individual efforts in 2016, in particular those students who gained a NZ scholarship, with nine scholarships in total in the areas of Chinese, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics and Calculus. In addition, 153 students gained Merit endorsements and 55 Excellence Endorsements at Levels 1 and 2. Well done!
Congratulations to the following students who were presented with Special Awards at the assembly:
Māori High Achiever Award: Alana Hillary (13SN), Thomas Chin (12MY), Melanie Aitken (12IT).
Pasifika High Achiever Award: Edwin Dixon (13SN), May Dunn (13SN), Alfred Tuiai (13EM), Inise Manu (13IT), Claudia Dunn (12SC), Lehman Taleni (12VA).
Māori and Pasifika High Achiever Award: Fifita Tahaafe (13HW).
At the assembly, I stressed some of the key elements of academic success: being punctual and attending all classes; being organized; taking advantage of our tutorials and being committed to classwork. In addition, I made reference to ‘kaizen’, where one always strives to be better than before – certainly food for thought as students head towards the end of term 1.
By now, you will have received two fortnightly reports, and it has been pleasing to receive some very positive feedback form parents. Certainly it is generating some good discussion about levels of commitment, or in some cases, over-commitment, when it comes to time out of class.
On the theme of feedback to parents, you will find information in this newsletter regarding two Student Achievement Interview Days (SAID) that we are trialling in 2017. I look forward to meeting you at the first of these days in early April.

Principal
