In 2017, we will be trialling two of these days as opportunities for our teachers to discuss progress with parents and caregivers.

Each year Riccarton High School organises a day to get some extra work done around the school – and for this we need your help. This year, it’s Saturday the 1st April, from 9.00am to 1.00pm.

In 2017, we will be offering an exciting new range of scholarships for Year 8 students intending to enrol at Riccarton High School in Year 9 in 2018.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Riccarton High School Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) annual general meeting on Tuesday, 21 March, 2017.

Late last year, our History teacher, Rebekah Nimmo, was accepted into an intensive and life-changing teaching programme through the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand. She tells of her time at Yad Vashem in Israel. 

With winter fast approaching students may want to consider purchasing some warmer uniform items. Please note that from 1 June 2018, uniform prices will increase on all garments except blazers.

On Wednesday 15 March, Josh Bridgman (10NS), Asher Spragg (10RY), Finn O’Farrell (10BB), Jordan Riddell (10NS), Luke Austin (10BB) Arthur Martin (10RY), Shin Kato (10VE), and Blake Stocks (10NS) competed in the School Bowls Championship for the Riccarton Bowling Club Cup held at the Club. There were some very close games with the top result going to Shin Kato in the balance going down to the final bowl. 

Matthew Woermann, Daniel McInnes and Samuel Gamble recently took part in the initial challenge of the Evolocity.

Hi my name’s Nathan Hyde, I’m the Board of Trustees student representative and I’m going to share with you the experiences I had whilst on board the Spirit of Adventure Voyage from the 18-22 January. 

Riccarton High School recently held a raffle of three food hampers to raise funds for uniforms and Wananga Kapa Haka.

Year 11 musicians celebrate the arrival of the new piano in the hall. We can all look forward to hearing the wonderful music that will be played on it at the various musical events throughout the year and beyond.

Max Connolly is pictured here playing the new baritone saxophone. This fabulous instrument plays an essential role in the Jazz and Concert Bands.

Riccarton competed in the NZYPT regional competition held in Christchurch on the 11th March.

Magandang araw po! Ako po ay si Hayley Concepcion na kasalukuyang nagtratrabaho sa Christchurch City Libraries. Gusto kong ipabahagi sa inyo ang mga serbisyo ng ating libraries sa ating mga mag-aaral. Pero bago yan, gusto ko munang ipaalam sa mga magulang na ang Upper Riccarton Library ay “shared” library ng Riccarton High School at ng publiko. Ibig sabihan, ang library na ito ay syang magsisilbing library ng mga mag-aaral ng Riccarton High School para sa kanilang pag-aaral, at ito rin ay bukas sa publiko at sa mga gustong gumamit nito.

There has been an increase in winter sports teams this year and help is desperately required to coach and/or transport students to and from their sporting events. 

Josh Bridgman (10NS), Asher Spragg (10RY), Finn O’Farrell (10BB), Jordan Riddell (10NS), Luke Austin (10BB) and Arthur Martin (10RY), under the guidance of the Riccarton Bowling Club President, Mrs Roberts, have been preparing for the Riccarton Bowling Club Cup Competition. On Wednesday 15 March they will compete for the Cup that has been presented to the school by the Club.

On the 4th of the March the RHS Waka Ama team competed in the Canterbury Secondary School Sprint Champs. 

Racing at the recent Division 2 New Zealand National Swim Champs held in Rotorua, at her first full meet since recovering from an injury four months ago, Sarah Hunter (12VA) has bounced back, setting new personal best times and medalled in her specialist stroke events.

2017 started of very differently for Youth Worker, Nicky Exton and three of our former students, Ella Martin, Hannah O’Connell and Brynlea Stocks. Nicky tells of their overseas visit to India and Nepal.

Our first whanau hui was held on a lovely afternoon on the school field outside the whare. About twenty families - seventy people, came to celebrate the beginning of the year together, meet each other and share kai. 

The Riccarton High School Pasifika Speech Celebration is on Wednesday 16 May.
