Marae Haerenga

At the end of term 2, our Year 9 students and the students from the Kohanga Ako will visit Rāpaki marae, and have the opportunity to experience a pōwhiri in the whare nui.

Students will be in whare groups for each visit, making four trips in all, so that all students will be able to participate in the pōwhiri, the sharing of kai, and the recitation of their mihi on the marae.

They will travel by bus, and be away from school for most of the morning, returning for periods 4 and 5.

More details will be available at the beginning of term 2.

The whare nui at Rāpaki marae, near Governor’s Bay, has been recently rebuilt, and beautifully embellished with whakairo and raranga.

The superb site on the harbour adds to the visual and moving experience.
