As we head towards the end of the school year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank a range of people for their contribution in 2017: to our wonderful students, dedicated staff and supportive parents/whanau - we appreciate all that you bring to Riccarton High School, making it the special place that it is.
Thank you also to those parents/whanau, who took time recently to provide us with feedback as we work to create our Education Brief that in turn will be used as the basis for some redevelopment work to occur over the next few years.
From the feedback we received, it has been reassuring to know that so much of what we do at the school is not only appreciated but it is also ‘on the mark’ in terms of what we are aiming to achieve with our students. That is not to say that we are perfect.
The survey also identified some areas that we need to reflect upon going forward, particularly in the areas of communication, provision for dealing with our culturally diverse community, and the way we use physical spaces around the school.
Enjoy reading through our last newsletter for the year. I do recommend that you take time to read the letter by our very own Andrea Andrews who is also part of the negotiating team working with the Government to try and achieve pay equity for Teacher Aides. This group of people who traditionally have been undervalued on a national scale, do an incredible job dealing with complex behaviours on a daily basis as they work to support our teachers and students inside and outside of the classroom. We wish them well in their negotiations.
Best wishes to you all for a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
I hope that you get a chance to relax, refresh, recharge and take time with family and friends while enjoying all the good things that the summer brings!
