Final Careers Department Update for 2021

Employment Opportunities – Full time and Holiday work

We have had several employment opportunities phoned into the Careers Department over the past few weeks. These jobs and any others phoned in before the end of the school year will be advertised on the school Careers website https://riccarton.careerwise.school/. Students looking for work over the holidays can also contact recruitment companies directly and register with them as well. Students who need a CV can either come and see us in the Careers Department before the 15th of December or they can go on to the Careers website on the above address and in the jobs section there is a CV and Cover Letter template there that they can use.

Scholarships

Congratulations to all our senior students who have achieved scholarships for both tertiary study and vocational training. It is a huge achievement to be awarded a scholarship and Riccarton High School students always do well in this area. Scholarships are awarded for things like academic excellence, leadership, hardship, and cultural diversity and can often make the difference for a student in helping them to achieve their dream.

Secondary Tertiary Pathways (STP)/Dual Enrolment

The Riccarton High School Secondary Tertiary Pathways/Dual Enrolment programme has had another successful year. Students on this programme attend school for three days a week and then attend tertiary institutions like Ara, SIT or Vision for the remaining two days where they complete courses in specialised fields like construction/carpentry, automotive or early childhood teaching. This year it has been especially pleasing to see so many students from this programme leave school at the end of the year to either go on to another course or straight into full time employment or apprenticeships. This programme enables students to gain meaningful credits in something they are really interested in and gives them a head start when looking for employment.

We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. To our senior students leaving Riccarton High School next year, we wish you all the best for your next life adventure whether you are heading on to tertiary study or employment, remember to enjoy life and take all the opportunities that come your way!
