Staff Profile: Mr Andrew Hiku

This month I had the opportunity to ask Mr Andrew Hiku some questions about his role and himself.

What is your role and how long have you been here?

My role is the Network Assistant and I have worked here for just over a year now.

Where did you work previous to this role?

I worked at Hillmorton High School for 13 years as their Network Administrator.

Why this job at Riccarton High School?

I Love I.C.T and at the interview I saw they had great values at this school and have amazing staff. Dave is a pretty good boss to work for... don't tell him I said that.

What do you like about Riccarton High School ?

I think there would be a significantly shorter list if you asked me what I didn't like about it! There is hopes and dreams here for students and staff alike. There is great opportunities for everyone.

Fishing, Hunting, Camping, Outdoors.

What was it like working during lockdown?

I was working from home and it was pretty good. I did a bit of different work than I normally would as I was not onsite but overall, it was pretty rewarding working from home as I had the opportunity to help other schools as well.

Are there any challenges you face at work?

There are always challenges, whether it is helping a student with a Chromebook or an Apple device or helping staff with other things.

What bring you joy?

A lot of things.... but mostly food.

What do you like about working at a High School?

It's cool to watch the students bloom. Watching them develop amazing skills along their journey is great to see.
