The Senior sporting achievement award goes to a learner who has broken three NZ records this year in the pool. She impressively broke the Women's 800m Freestyle at the 2020 SCWC Short Course Championships, breaking the S9 Para Swimming Record, which has stood since 2003 by former Paralympian Sarah Powell. She broke the record by 27 seconds and also broke NZ records in the S9 events of the 400m Freestyle and the 100m Butterfly. She was due to compete at Nationals in Auckland but that was cancelled due to Covid, as was the trip to Singapore in May with the High Performance team -to represent NZ in the World Para Swim series. She continues to attend training camps with them. She has also been selected by High Performance Sport NZ on the supported Pathway to Podium programme! This learner works extremely hard to reach her goals and we know she has amazing things heading her way. The 2020 award for Senior Sporting Achievement goes to Ella Benn. Congratulations.

Team of the year

The team of the year for 2020 is awarded to: The Thomson & Whelan Basketball Team. The senior boys Basketball team entered in the division two Thomson & Whelan Schools competition for the first time this year. They had some massive wins and made the final coming up against Rangiora New Life. The team won 89-68 in the final. A huge accomplishment for a team in the first year of competing in this competition. They now look forward to a relegation game in 2021 to go up into Division One.
