Young Enterprise Challenge

Year 11's Let's Make Money Course

DAY 1

As part of the Year 11 let’s make money course, we were given the opportunity to take part in the Young Enterprise Schemes Business Challenge. It was a 3-day workshop and during this time we learnt many helpful skills that are going to benefit us all in the future. On the first day, we got into groups and did some activities that got us thinking about all the different uses of everyday objects like a pinecone and a rubbish bin. In our groups, we then looked at a shopping trolley. We had to find the current problems, a target market for our new design and create a new shopping trolley with features to fix the problem. Once we were happy with our design we had to pitch it to the class. Sharing our ideas with the class was to help us practice for presenting our final idea to judges on day 3.

DAY 2

On the second day of the Young Enterprise business challenge we all created our own business groups and discussed roles inside of those groups such as the CEO, finance director, strategist and marketing director. In our individual roles, we all had a task to complete which would help us with pitching our idea to the judges. We also got lots of opportunities to gain confidence by pitching our ideas to the class. In the morning all the groups discussed what their product will be and how our products can be a solution to a problem that we may face in our world. We as individuals in our groups did our individual tasks which then all lead to present our ideas so we had evidence to back up our projects.

DAY 3

The third day of the challenge we did the final touches to our business pitch and started putting together a display and preparing to present our business idea to the 5 judges that came in. We did lots of practicing and making sure our business pitch was to the best quality that we could have done in the time we were given. In the afternoon when the judges came in we presented our pitch 5 times to each judge and they judged us on the way we presented and pitched our idea and how we made it convincing enough that it would succeed. We had to make sure our business idea was convincing and have evidence showing that we did our research and went into detail about actually starting up that business. Then all the judges got together and discussed everyone's pitches and decided on a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. In conclusion I really enjoyed the Young Enterprise business challenge and learnt a lot of key skills from it that I'm able to take away and apply in the future.
