Leaders Spotlight

Leanne Croucher —

Written by Isaac Howie and Kaylee Hill - Ngahuru Whanau Captains

In Week 2 of Term 1, the senior Whanau Captains and the Whanau Ambassadors had an opportunity to reconnect with ongoing leaders and connect with the new learners joining each leadership team. The camp was an overnight camp at Glenroy Lodge, where each whanau had the opportunity to spend the night and plan for the year. The Year 13 Whanau Captains lead activities and team building exercises to further improve their leadership skills and strengthen their relationships with the team, while simultaneously developing the future leaders at Rolleston College. Additionally, it created an environment in which everyone was able to share and create ideas for events further on in the year in order to make the experience at Rolleston College even more memorable.

When we weren’t planning, we did activities such as, swimming, orienteering, team building and mini golf (which after a while we turned into a driving range). We also had to cook our own dinner which was a good way to build relationships.

This opportunity was a great way for us to express ourselves and our goals to each other with a future forward focus. I can speak for myself and other Whanau Captains how honoured we are to receive this position and to have a great bunch of whanau ambassadors come through. I’d also like to give a huge thank you to all of the staff members who gave up their time to be with us on camp.

Bring on 2021!
