Two of our learners, Emerald Arthurs and Michaela Williams, both competed in the NZ Grappler South Island Championships in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art based on submission holds, with no striking allowed. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be practiced both in the traditional Gi, or without a Gi.

The two learners represented both Rolleston College and Axis BJJ Rolleston fantastically, with Emerald earning a gold medal for her division in the Gi, and Michaela earning a silver for both her Gi and No-Gi divisions. Congratulationsto both of these learners!

Cailtin Bell and Bianca Mitchell represented Rolleston College in the Mounted Games at Canterbury A & P Show Grounds on Friday 23 September.

Catlins rode horse Ebony and Bianca's rode horse Mr Ed from Selwyn Riding Centre. The girls competed in many varying challenges including picking up or dropping cups, bottles, toolkits into containers and spearing hoops with plastic lances. Controlling a horse while doing this takes extreme horsemanship and composure from the riders.

Caitlin and Bianca competed against over 20 teams and some schools had several team entries.

The girls assisted with the course set up between their heats and were coached by Trish Johnson from Rolleston Riding Centre who gave her time to help coach the team.

We were very proud of the riders who did so well.

We said farewell and thanks to Coel Kerr our Lincoln University Lincoln University Sports Intern who has done some great mahi with our Sports Department. All the best with your future Coel.

Massive well done to the Girls 7s team that played last Friday in the Linwood Tournament.
