Tennis Update

Caitlin McIvor —

It has been a busy start to the term with tournaments and the weekly tennis Bash starting up.

On 14  February we had a team of six consisting of Jessica Aldridge, Mitchell Green, Yutaro Sato, Midori Hayashi, Go Furnsawa and Dylan Humphreys competing in the Mixed Open section of the Aoraki Secondary Schools Tennis Teams Championship.

Throughout the day there were a few change ups with double partners so that everyone got to play but overall, the team really pulled together winning most single games, and came out with an impressive result of 2nd place.

The weekly tennis bash has 8 teams entered into the social grade for Wednesday afternoons. Unfortunately our firecracker tennis players have coaching at the same time so are waiting for term 4 to swing around so they can enter a team into the competitive section. This week was postponed due to weather conditions so all of our teams are well and truly ready to get started. We wish the teams well and hope that they enjoy the next six weeks, returning to play in term 4.

This weekend (Friday 1 - Sunday 3 March) Roncalli has four players consisting of Jessica Aldridge, Max Taylor, Mitchell Green and Isla McManus competing in the South Island Secondary Schools Tennis Teams Championships. We are very pleased to have it hosted in Timaru which gives us a small advantage with less travel involved and decent sleeps/recovery in our own homes. Roncalli will playing against 2 Burnside High School teams and Ashburton College. We wish the team luck and pray for some perfect weather/playing conditions.

Overall we have had a really successful start to the tennis season and hope that the numbers will continue to increase.
