Hospitality Front of House

I thought that Gateway was an interesting idea but didn't know if it would really help me on where I wanted to go in the future. The three taster days I chose were early childhood teacher, primary school teacher and front of house/cookery. The one I chose was working in a cafe because when I was on the taster day I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to know much more about what was involved and what happens behind the scenes. The place I work at is Mocca Cafe in Timaru which can be very busy at times.  All of the workers are very kind and happy to help me, you can have very great chats with them. Since I’ve worked there I have done a lot of food preparation, taking it out to the customers, working the till, cleaning the tables and doing the dishes. The ITO I am doing my unit standards through is Service IQ, a lot of the standards are practical and I have to gather evidence at Mocca to send in with the theory work which I do in class. The assessments will be sent away to be marked. My plans for next year are to get into a Level 4 Cookery course at ARA and also complete the Barista Level 3 course.  After that I plan to travel overseas maybe to Canada and open my own cafe there and bring over the New Zealand dishes to give other countries a taste of what New Zealand food is like to spread our culture around.
