Year 9 team takes out 2nd place at the Nga Kete Debate celebrating young women around Canterbury.
Year 9 students Sheridan Ioane and Amy Reganvanu, alongside future Roncallian Olivia Piddington competed in the annual Nga Kete Debate which was held at St Margaret's College in Christchurch on 13 November.
The competition celebrates women’s suffrage and is open to teams of girls from all Christchurch secondary schools.
These three young women formed an unstoppable team debating in both prepared and short preparation debates against different Christchurch schools. The moots were all associated with relevant and important feminist issues.
These students advanced to the final debate against St Margaret's College. This is a massive achievement for a young team and demonstrated their excellent skills and potential.
With a really strong debating programme and many opportunities for developing excellent public speaking, like Bishop Lyons, students can compete in debating, impromptu speaking and prepared speaking at all levels.
