I chose the Service Industry and in term one I completed the SEEDS programme with Service IQ, my work experience placement was at Countdown.

I thought that gateway was interesting, good experience for work and a good way to gain some credits towards an industry qualification.

During my placement I spent time in the produce and grocery departments and assisted the checkout operators. This job involves customer service, money handling, working and talking to people, and being polite. I was assisted by a Service IQ tutor from Christchurch and I got 22 credits. My plan for when I leave school is to find a job in the hospitality industry or to study cookery at Ara Institute.

I would recommend gateway to students that would like some work experience, it helps you decide what job you might like in your future, it gets you ready to start working and for applying for courses.
