Can't make your final NZQA exam?

Belinda Leckie —

Students who cannot sit an examination because of sickness, accident, injury or a family bereavement or other emergency must contact Ms Leckie as soon as possible.

Students may be eligible to apply for a derived grade. To begin this process, students should

  • Contact Ms Leckie, as soon as possible, to seek advice on the process and notify her that you want to apply for a derived grade
  • Collect a derived grade application form from the school or download a derived grade application form (DOC, 191KB)
  • Complete the information requested including:
    • getting your doctor, counsellor, relevant professional or agency to fill in their part of the application form OR
    • providing evidence of the event e.g. order of service or funeral notice
  • Hand the completed application to Ms Leckie as soon as it is completed by the due date on the application form.

Students can choose not to apply for a derived grade for a standard where a Not Achieved grade will be reported. The school will be able to advise candidates if a valid grade is available and what that grade is.

Students may also apply for a derived grade if they become ill during an examination and think it affected their performance badly. In this instance, they must:

    • advise the exam room supervisor that they feel unwell, and then
    • go to see Ms Leckie as soon as they leave the exam room for a Derived Grade Application.
