Plumbing and Drainlaying

I chose to take Gateway because I thought it would be a good way of looking at different trades and hopefully getting a job at the end of the year.

For my taster days I went to de Joux Plumbing and Drainage and Industrial Fibreglass Solutions. I chose to do my weekly work placement at de Joux Plumbing and Drainage.

When I am at work I help with cutting pipes, visiting suppliers and other general trades jobs as needed by the plumbers I work with.  At school I am working on unit standards from Skills Organisation which are all to do with plumbing, gasfitting & drainlaying plus some other general work/life skills like budgeting; the credits count towards an apprenticeship.

I am really enjoying my work placement because it is teaching me what it is like to have a job in the real world.  I am on track to complete the Gateway Skills Organisation Programme by the end of Term 2 then  I will be leaving school to start full time employment with my Gateway employer.   All going well after a trial period I will have the opportunity to start an apprenticeship and will be on my way to  becoming a qualified plumber.
