Gateway update

Marian Mehrtens —

Gateway students experience industry training one day per week in real workplaces, working on real tasks, trying out real careers. It helps with making career decisions and starting further qualifications while they are still at school

Gateway students have had a busy start to the year with workplace preparation courses, career research and CV building. Grant Jenkins visited the class and talked to students about job interview do's and don'ts and what to expect in the workplace and students have had the opportunity to visit three different workplaces each for one day "taster day" experiences.

Students are in the process of confirming their work experience placements and registering with outside providers to complete industry assessment relevant to their career choice.  Covid has created a few extra disruptions and a little extra juggling with work experience arrangements but all in all the programme is full steam ahead with fantastic employer support.  A big thank you to all who have given their time to students learning first hand about their chosen career. Employers keen to be involved are welcome to get in touch

Gateway is funded by TEC (the Tertiary Education Commission), suitable students have a good attitude, are reliable, enthusiastic and hard working. There are still a few spots available in the programme so if you are in Year 12 or 13 and want to know more please contact Mrs Mehrtens for further information.

Gateway profiles will be published in college newsletters over the next few months, you will see what exciting things they are doing, we hope you enjoy reading them.
