International Student profile - Theresa Hamp
Sadly at the end of this term we farewell Theresa
Hello, I am Theresa Hamp and I am an international student from Germany.
The name of my school in Berlin is Europäisches Gymnasium Bertha-von-Suttner. My school has about 1000 students and is way bigger than Roncalli. We have up to 9 or 10 periods a day, but sometimes only 6 or 7.
I chose to study in another country for a year for many reasons. I wanted to learn about a different culture and mentality and to meet new people. Another reason to study overseas was to learn about other school systems, which is interesting to me as I want to be a teacher. Also, I decided it was a good time to work on being more outgoing and less shy. Another advantage is that I will be in the same year with people my age when I return home to Germany.
I chose Roncalli College, because it was in Timaru and because the people seemed to be nice. I have enjoyed studying here a lot. The staff and students are very lovely and helped me out when I had problems. My host family was very nice and funny and they really included me in family life.
My time abroad has taught me that it can be easy to talk to people if I try to and that I can do a lot more than I thought I could. I will miss the relaxed teachers and classes, but also the generally nice people and the fact that you actually greet people you meet and know here, which is a bit different from Berlin. Most importantly though, I will miss the great people I met and the amazing friends I am lucky to have here.
Thank you for making this stay amazing!
