Practice Assessment Week
Wednesday 13 to Wednesday 20 September
Roncalli College Senior Assessment week will be Week 9 and 10 of this term (Wednesday 13 - Wednesday 20 September). These assessment opportunities and workshops are for Year 11-13 students.
It is very important that your student prepares well for them. You can support them by asking when their assessments are and helping them set a realistic revision and study programme. These Roncalli College assessments are important for a number of reasons:
These assessments are formative assessments. They give your student the chance to find out what they know well and what they need to learn before the NCEA external examinations in November/December.
If your student is ill during any of the November/December external examiantions, they can apply for a derived grade. The school is asked by NZQA for an estimated grade; what we think they may have gained, had they sat the examination. We use these September assessment grades for this purpose.
During this week some practical based subjects will be having workshops where they will be working on internal assessments.
A couple of things to note.
- Please remind your student that they are to wear full school uniform when sitting their assessment (or coming in for a workshop/revision).
- They cannot use their phone during any of the assesments for any reason.
- Your student will not be allowed to wear a watch (this is a NZQA regulation).
- If your student is sick, or an unforeseen circumstance occurs, please call the College and let us know that they will not be coming in for their timetable assessment.
- Your student needs to bring pens (blue, black, highlighters), calculators in a clear plastic bag. A charged laptop with charger (just in case) for digital assessments and any other equipment the assessment/workshop requires.
- For morning assessments students need to be lined up ready to enter by 8:40am and afternoon assessments at 12:10pm. If they are sitting a mathematics and/or science assessment their calculators will need to be reset before entering the assessment space.
If you have any questions please contact your student’s subject teacher or myself.
