Wonderful trip to Lake Tekapo on Saturday 21 March 2020

Cathy Shearer —

Making great memories!

On an overcast day a van full of students and I headed to Lake Tekapo for a day out and an opportunity to see a beautiful part of our region.

We stopped a few times on the way to take photos (as you do!) and this included watching the Pleasant Point Steam Train running - a special highlight! Scenes of New Zealand farm life delighted students and it was a noisy trip up with music playing loudly in the background.

A compulsory stop for morning tea at the Fairlie Bakehouse to sample a Fairlie popular pie was enjoyed (thank you Miss Leckie for this treat!).

Gasps of delight echoed through the van as we drove into Tekapo and students sighted the Lake bathed in the sunshine.

Heaps of photos were taken down by the Lake, by the Church of the Good Shepherd and the bridge. Students explored the souvenir shops for special gifts for family and friends. It was quiet in Tekapo with few visitors so the shop owners were pleased to see the students.

Unfortunately the weather then turned and it started to rain so the planned trip to the hot pools did not proceed. Instead we had afternoon tea and this was enjoyed by some students at the Kohan Restaurant and for others they enjoyed eating at the Dark Sky Diner.

On the way back we talked about what we enjoyed about the day out and how fortunate we were to visit Tekapo.
