Flex Learning

Guy Sutherland —

Student feedback is overwhelmingly positive

Our year 12 and 13 students have now completed their first semester of Flex Learning. The initial student feedback we have collected about this new initiative is overwhelmingly positive. Flex Learning allows students, with the help of their Learning Advisor, to prioritise and manage their own learning, engage in meaningful workplace opportunities, and pursue their interests and passions that do not necessarily fit within their limited timetabled classes.

In a typical week at Roncalli, there are generally about 30 senior students undertaking off-site learning experiences in the community through our successful Gateway Program. Our intention, by offering a flex day, is to expand these personalised pathway opportunities to a wider range of students so that they can also have some experiential learning opportunities prior to leaving school – to ‘test the waters’ so to speak.

This week the students have selected or submitted their proposals for Semester 2 of Flex which runs for 8 weeks in Term 3. Below is a link to the google site that outlines the options available. If you are interested in being involved or know of a business or community group that might be, please contact the College office.

While we are pleased with the progress we have made with Flexday in these early stages, we also recognise the huge potential for the future as we look to integrate more local businesses into our programme and continue to expand our offerings for students. We also recognise the importance of equipping students with the skills they will need for a balanced life beyond school.
