Gateway roundup

Marian Mehrtens —

Congratulations to our 2019 Gateway leavers heading off to the next chapter of their lives.

It is an exciting time of year!  Gateway students are finishing off their training  and learning plans, finalising plans for their next step and for many, leaving school to start apprenticeships, employment and tertiary courses.

It is too soon to confirm outcomes but I can confidently report that all of our Gateway students have good plans in place for their future pathways.  It is likely that 14 Gateway students will be starting (or have already started) their apprenticeships, 8 have enrolled for courses at Ara Institute, 8 have full time employment and 7 will return to school for Year 13.   Exciting times for these young people and congratulations to all of them.

A big thank you to the employers involved in the programme this year; for teaching students new skills and about expectations in the real world of work.  This year students completed an interview module which involved applying for a mock job and attending an interview with a real employer; employers have been generous with their time which is very much appreciated.

Planning for the 2020 programme is well underway; prospective Gateway students and their parents have attended an information evening and applications are coming in fast.  Interviews are underway so If you haven't already got your application in for next year please contact Mrs Mehrtens to arrange your interview time.  Students accepted into the programme will be confirmed before school starts in Term 1 next year.

Last but not least thank you to the staff at Roncalli  for their support of the programme.  We are incredibly lucky that teachers at the college are understanding and willing to be flexible with teaching and learning.

We are looking forward to meeting the next enthusiastic group of Gateway students and to another successful year.
