Builder

I decided that Gateway would be a really good way to get work experience before I leave school and see what sort of job I want to get into. Originally, I thought that I wanted to be an electrician so I did two taster days at Plunket Electrical and then one day at Shore Construction. After my taster days I decided that I actually wanted to be a builder instead of an electrician so my work placement is now at Shore Construction. I enjoy doing more hands on type work and that is why building is what I want to do long term. Every week at work, I work with a different team of builders and do framing, concrete work and other construction work. I am doing the Level 3 BCITO building unit standards at school and each week I have to write in my work diary exactly what I have done while I am at work. These standards count towards a building apprenticeship. When I leave school I would like to work as a builder and I plan to take up an apprenticeship.
