I have a placement at Vaughan Motors and enjoy spending my Wednesdays working on cars, I help with vehicle services and basic repairs.

Before this year I was interested in doing something with cars for a living and then found out about Gateway and having a chance to experience different jobs and trades. I chose the automotive industry and specifically mechanics, I also looked into heavy/diesel mechanics.  Some of the tasks I do include checking all the fluids, sometimes I change oil, change brake pads, oil filters and air filters. Repairs include things like changing shocks and radiator hoses, putting tyres onto wheels, balancing them and doing wheel alignments.

I do theory work with MITO; the theory work is made nice and simple, I am provided with all the information I need for online assessments and can see how much I have done and how much I have got to go displayed on my MITO portal dashboard. This year I will complete a mini qualification called a micro-credential which is the start of an apprenticeship qualification.

I would recommend Gateway to any students who want to try out different trades or jobs or aren't quite sure what they want to do yet.
