Athletics success ~ South Island Colgate Games

During the holidays, the South Island Colgate games were held at the Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub in Christchurch from the 17th to the 19th of January.

63 clubs attended from across the South Island, including a few from the north island as well, over 1000 athletes at the event overall. We had a number of Roncalli students from years 9-11 competing for their clubs around the Canterbury region:

Rhys Stevens, Archie Jones, Lachlan List, Rhiana Nimo, Bethany Oudemans, Monica McDonald and William Laing.

Congratulations to the following students:

Monica McDonald: In the girls grade 14 100m semi she came 14th, 3rd in the girls 4x100 and first in the grade 14 mixed distance medley.

Lachlan List: 5th in the grade 13 boys 400m final, 8th in long jump, 8th in the 200m final, 10th in the grade 13 mixed distance medley and 2nd in the grade 13 boys 4x100.

Archie Jones: 7th in the grade 13 boys 800m final, 4th in the 1500m final and 3rd in the grade 13 mixed distance medley.

Rhys Stevens: 10th in the grade 13 boys high jump and 6th in the grade 13 boys 4x100.

William Laing: 2nd in the grade 14 400m, 7th in discus, 2nd in the 800m final, 7th in high jump, 1st in the 1500m final and first in the grade 14 mixed distance medley.


A Massive Congratulations to William Laing for also being awarded one of four Nick Willis Scholarships as one of the Top Performing Male Athletes of the Meet at the Games. Well done William.
