The 2018 year is shaping up as being another busy year in the Careers Department. Our senior students have already started thinking about their future pathways through conversations held at course conferencing. In a few weeks time we will be starting the first of our liaison visits from the Tertiary Institutions. Below is a list of visits and events happening in Term 1. Parents and Caregivers are more than welcome to come along to the Liaison visits from the Tertiary Institutions.

Tertiary Events and Liaison Visits

1 March  1:30-2:30pm in the  Library  - University of Canterbury Liaison visit

9 March  1:00-3:00pm in the  Library  - University of Otago Law Presentation

19 March  1:45-2:30pm in the Library -  Otago Polytechnic Liaison visit

27 March  1:45-2:30pm in the Library - Lincoln University Liaison visit

12 April  1:45-2:30pm in the Library - Auckland University Liaison visit

For students looking for scholarships or grants we have again subscribed to the givMe database so students can check online what they might apply be eligible to apply for. Access to this database is only possible at school so students need to pop into the Library and see Mrs Heenan to find out how to access all this information.

Students often know what subjects they like and are good at, but don’t know all the things they can do with these subjects. Throughout the year, based on the Where To series featured on the Careers NZ Website, I will highlight a particular subject and what possible jobs you could do with this subject.

Some of the more interesting jobs you can do if you have an interest in Geography, Media and Social Studies are: Navy Officer, Intelligence Officer, Ranger, Tour Guide, Police Officer, Librarian, Meterologist, Artistic Director, Judge, Copywriter, Translator, Flight Attendant, Surveyor
