Marian Mehrtens —

This year I decided to take Gateway as I wanted to explore jobs in the trade industries. I had three taster days, as an Automotive Electrician, Mechanic, and an Electrician.

I decided to do electrical for my weekly work experience as that was the day I enjoyed most, I found a placement with Morris Waddell Electrical for one day every week.

I have been learning about how to wire lights, powerpoints, wall heaters, etc. I have really enjoyed my time at my placement learning how everything works and doing my Skills Organisation bookwork in gateway class.

Halfway through my placement I started to explore my options for next year and decided to apply for the Electrical Engineering theory course at Ara and got accepted, but after talking to ETCO I decided to take the Electrical Trade Foundation Course with them in Dunedin instead.  The Level 3 ETCO course starts on September 28th. I am really looking forward to taking this course and hope to be an apprentice electrician halfway through next year.
