We had many students achieving great things, representing the College, being named in representative teams and competing in Regional, South Island, National Tournaments and World Champs over the holiday period. Welcome back and congratulations on your success and valuable experiences you have gained.

HOCKEY

National U18 Men's Hockey

Congratulations to Thomas Flynn and Ben Kerr, members of the South Canterbury Under 18 Boys Hockey team, Bronze Medal winners at the National Association Under 18 tournament held in North Harbour Auckland.

This was South Canterbury's first ever medal at this National tournament, well done boys a huge achievement being part of this success.


CYCLING

South Island Schools Road Cycling Championships

Jaxson Whyte recently competed at the South Island Schools Cycling Championships which this year was held in Timaru for the first time. Jaxson placed 1st in both the U15 boy’s road race and 4km Individual Time Trial. The individual time trial was held at Southburn on Saturday 7 July and the road race was held at Levels Raceway on Sunday 8 July. Jaxson won both races convincingly from 21 other riders. Jaxsons results placed Roncalli 9th in the teams points competition.


BASKETBALL

South Canterbury Under 15 Representative Basketball teams

Roncalli recently had several players represent South Canterbury at a Under 15 Basketball tournament in Greymouth, this included Charlie Holden (Girls Team Captain), Briana Grace, Aimee Hewitt, Lucy Betts, Tyson Coombes, Lachlan McCambridge, Sam Jones, Harry Boston with Ryan Coombes attending as team manager for the boys, Sally Betts attending as Team Manager for the girls and Brittney Young attending as a referee. It was a successful weekend for all the South Canterbury teams with placings ranging from 1st through to 6th.


ATHLETICS

Brittney Young travelled to Australia during the school holidays with a group of club athletes from Canterbury to compete at the 2018 DownUnder Meet. The meet was held at the Griffith University Athletics Centre, Southport Australia. Brittney placed 2nd in the women's 20+ triple jump (9.78m) and 3rd in the women's 20+ long jump (4.61m). In the under 20 long jump she placed 5th (4.48m) and 9th in triple jump (9.39m). Congratulations Brittney on your achievements.


NETBALL

New Zealand Under 17 Champs

Welcome back to Kate Mclachlan and Sophie Lyons who represented South Canterbury competing at Netball New Zealand Under 17 Age Group Champs. This tournament was played at the Manawatu Netball Centre in Palmerston North 16 - 19 July.  Some tough competition but a a great experience for these girls finishing 31st place out of 42 teams.

Miss Jose Zandbergen was appointed to umpire at the Netball New Zealand Champs. This was an amazing week of netball and an awesome experience to be apart of. Jose was appointed a semi final Auckland 1 vs Manawatu and the 3rd and 4th play off Howick Pakuranga vs Manawatu.


INLINE SPEED SKATING - WORLD CHAMPS

Welcome back to Roncalli Year 12 student Jan-Hendrik Kuepper who went to the Netherlands, representing New Zealand at the Inline Speed Skating World Champs in July.

We look forward to hearing all about your experience and how your trip went Jan.
