Sensational Netball Season
Netball Season Summary
Well, what a season Roncalli Netball had!
Congratulations to everyone involved with Roncalli netball in 2022. It was fantastic to have so many students playing, volunteers coaching, managing, umpiring, committee organising things behind the scenes, and supporters supporting our netball club week in and week out.
On Wednesday 15 September Netball South Canterbury hosted the Premier, Premier Plate 1 and Premier Plate 2 finals and at the conclusion the Senior prizegiving. Roncalli netball had a tremendous night with our Roncalli Senior B team playing the Premier Plate 2 final first up and coming out with a win 28-21, and then Roncalli Senior A team playing in the Premier Plate 1 final and coming out with a win 29-25. Both these teams played awesome games and fought until the end to come out on top, so very exciting! Thank you to all those who came out to support these teams, and our prizegiving winners on this night.
Congratulations to these Roncalli players, coaches and managers, who at the NSC prize giving were awarded first place in their respective grade;
- Roncalli Senior A
- Roncalli Senior B
- Roncalli 10B
- Roncalli 9A2
Also congratulations to all our umpires, representative players and management who were recognised at this also.
On another note, Monday 29 August - Thursday 1 September, saw 80 teams from the South Island come to Timaru and compete in the Senior South Island Netball competition (which hadn't been played since 2019 due to Covid). This competition is divided into three grades, A (32 teams), B (32 teams) and C (16 teams), and our Roncalli Senior A team were ranked 17th in the B grade.
The team played three fantastic days of netball which secured them a place in the semi finals on Thursday morning. A tough team to come up against saw Roncalli play off for third/fourth place in their final game of the tournament. The team certainly didn't disappoint and provided a nail biter, going into extra time, coming away with the win! Congratulations to Alana Dawson, Georgia McEwen, Carol Dawson and all the players who, because of gaining third place, promote Roncalli into the A grade for 2023 - we can't wait to see what is in store for the A grade next year. A congratulations must also go to Mia Daly and Briana Grace who were named as B grade talented players.
We also had four Roncalli umpires at this tournament, Amy Ellis, Zannyx Geary, Annie Henderson, and Jose Zandbergen, who without these ladies, and the other umpires, the tournament wouldn't be able to run - thank you very much for taking the time to do this!
On a sad note we say goodbye to Deborah Crawford and Gillian Anderson. Deb and Gillian were our Senior B coaches for 2022, but have been members and coaches of the Roncalli netball club for 12 years! They have coached teams from Year 9 through to Senior, are members of our netball committee, have provided expertise in all fields of netball and will be sorely missed! We wish you all the best for whatever Wednesday evenings and Saturdays may now bring.
Lastly, we are seeking enthusiastic coaches and managers for our Senior and Junior teams for the 2023 season - anyone is welcome. If you are interested in this please complete this form. If you know someone who is interested but may not have received this email please get them to contact me and I will send them the form. Applications close Friday 4 November 2022.
Again, thank you all for supporting Roncalli netball in 2022 and good luck to our Year 13 players/umpires who will move on - we hope to see the rest of you back for the 2023 season.
