Sewer Main Renewal Cain Street

Rose Struthers —

No parking, drop offs or pickups from Cain Street

Please note the following:

  • During these works, sections of Cain Street will be restricted to residents’ access, emergency services, couriers and buses only.
  • All students need to apply for a parking permit and park in the gymnasium please.
  • For new families, it is timely to ask if all pickup and drop offs are from Craigie Avenue not Wellington Street please. (This is a health and safety issue.)

We have received the following information from the Timaru District Council.

What’s happening?

We will soon replace over half a kilometre of ageing sewermain along Cain Street between the Aynsley Street and North Street intersections. We will also install a roundabout at the Hassall/Cain St intersection in conjunction with our sewermain works.

Why?

The sewermain replacement is part of our wider infrastructure renewal schedule of works across the District to replace ageing assets. This work will help improve the reliability of the sewer network, maintain public health requirements and protect against environmental impacts.

The new roundabout is designed to improve safety for people driving, biking and walking, and will also assist with reducing speed at the intersections. We were pleased to receive special funding for this in line with the Government’s Road to Zero vision - a New Zealand where no one is killed or seriously injured in road crashes.

When?

Sewermain works will commence on Monday 17 April 2023 (weather dependent) and will take approximately three months to complete, concluding in late June. The roundabout will also be installed during this time. Works will take place Monday to Saturday between the hours of 7.30am and 6pm.

Anticipated disruption/delays?

  • During works, sections of Cain Street will be restricted to residents’ access, emergency services, couriers and buses only.
  • Street parking may be limited at times.
  • Work will be completed in sections, so areas impacted will change over time.
  • Footpath access adjacent to the roundabout works may be limited or unavailable at times.

All efforts will be made to minimise disruption caused by these works. If you have any special requirements or concerns, please contact either of the key contacts below. Maps of work areas are attached for your convenience.
