Roncalli College Z Club

Phoebe Scarsbrook —

On 27 July the Roncalli College Z Club was inaugurated and officially named a club within Zonta International.

Zonta is a leading global organisation of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. There are seven other Z clubs in New Zealand which makes us the eighth.

Members of our Z club will gain leadership skills, experience running a formal meeting, engage with a wide variety of different people and work together as a team for the common good of others. We will gain confidence to serve and grow in ways that have been prescribed and to pass on to others the honour and tradition of Z clubs.

These are all things that will set us up for a purposeful and fulfilling life. Z club is a way for Year 11 students and older to work together on important issues that arise within our school and wider community.

The Charter event which was held at school last Monday was to officially recognise our group. We had special guests attend such as Mayor Nigel Bowen and his wife, Jane and also many members of the Zonta Timaru community.

We would like to thank everyone who came and made the night so special, to Helen and the Zonta ladies, to Mr Comeau for supporting us, and to Miss Dawson for her constant dedication and hard work being the teacher in charge of this group.

Keep an eye out for upcoming events and projects from the Roncalli College Z Club.
