I want to work with foods especially in a bakery - taking Gateway helps me decide if it is the right decision.
Before starting Gateway this year I thought it seemed fun and interesting as I was going into a workplace for school. The taster day I went on was to New World Bakery and this is now my placement. This job involves packaging baked goods, making cakes, cupcakes, and biscuits, and setting any bakery items out into the store for people to buy. I am registered with Skills 4 Work and have work books that teach me the skills I need to work in a bakery. There are practical tasks to complete in the bakery and theory work to do in class at school. The unit standards count towards a bakery apprenticeship.
My plans for when I leave school are to try and get a job in the food industry or to take a course at Ara. Gateway is a very good course for anyone who wants to know what different work places are like and is very helpful when deciding what you want to do.
