Be ready for your exam days.

Belinda Leckie —

Set and maintain a routine for yourself during the exam period.

Students should arrive for exams at least 30 minutes before they begin - this means 9.00 for morning exams and 1.30 for afternoon exams. They should help themselves prepare for this by ensuring that they are out of bed and studying each day, starting at 9.30 then again at 2pm.

Students should avoid eating 9.30-12.30 and 2-5pm. This should "train" stomachs not to demand attention during these times when students are sitting their final exams.

Students may only have a basic pencil case with (where appropriate to an exam) an approved calculator, headphones (for language exams) and/ or a laptop. They also may have a water bottle with them during exams. This bottle needs to be transparent without any writing on it. Students should set up a study space with only these objects on a table to find out how they want to arrange their examination desk. In the exam, the pencil case contents must be kept in a plastic bag.

On examination days, students should

  • bring their pens, pencils, highlighters, small ruler etc in a plastic bag
  • bring a sealable plastic bag for their emergency pack - this contains objects like a cellphone, wallet and watch
  • for digital exams, ensure their laptops are fully charged - extension cords are available in each exam venue in case students want to plug them in
  • bring their admission slip - a student must have their admission slip to gain entrance to an exam venue. If they lose their admission slip, a new one can be printed off from their NZQA login. Ms Leckie or our Exam Centre Manager, Mrs Darling will need to sign any reprints. Nothing can be written or drawn on an admission slip.
