Mihi Whakatau 2023

David Hines —

"A tree's beauty lies in its branches but its strength lies in its roots"

Every year we prune back, students leave, and new ones take their place. At Roncalli, our roots are strong and deep, to better support the growth of our new ākonga (students) and kāiako (staff).

We begin 2023 with our Mihi Whakatau, a welcome, and a pledge to forge a strong community with our existing, and incoming students and staff.

The new additions to our College were welcomed on to the campus by Academic Principal Jayne Adams, supported by Raumiria Henare (Kapa Haka tutor). New Year 9s, along with new staff members Kelly Douglas, Courtney Molloy, Christine Crosbie and Geoff Searle, were supported by Karakia Waa (Year 10 Kapa Haka), and Haami Rahui (Kapa Haka Tutor).

2023 also marks the first major cohort of international students returning since the outbreak of the pandemic, with representatives from Japan and Germany.

Together we look forward to a successful and united 2023.

Ngā mihi nui,

David Hines
