Oceania Speed Skating Championships
Congratulations to Roncalli Students Jan-Hendrik Kuepper, Charli Nevin, Roshean O'Connor and Charlotte Clarke on their outstanding success at the Oceania Speed Skating Champs hosted in Timaru. Claiming 12 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
The Oceania Champs are an International competition held every year between Australia and New Zealand.
Competitors are selected in the team to represent New Zealand.
Oceania Championships: Raced on Bank track
Jan-Hendrik Kuepper: Competed in Junior Men U18
- GOLD: 300 m Time trial – 26.818 seconds

- BRONZE: 42 km Marathon
- Overall Grade Aggregate - 1st
Charli Nevin: Competed in Cadet Girls U14
- GOLD: 1000 m
- GOLD: 500 m (follow link to watch the final)
- GOLD: 3000 m Relay – a remarkable effort seeing as she crashed half way through the race and broke her wrist and her teammates finished without her. Charli would have kept skating if not for an official who stopped her.
- GOLD: 5000 m Points
- SILVER: 300 m Time trial – 30.958 seconds
- SILVER: 10 000 m Elimination
- Overall Grade Aggregate - 1st
Charli was unable to race the 21km half marathon seeing as she broke her wrist on the last day of track races which were before the marathon.
Roshean O’Connor: Competed in Cadet Girls U14
- GOLD: 3000 m Relay – she was in the team with Charli and was one of the two team members who carried on the race and won it. On the podium Roshean and the other NZ teammate held Charli’s medal aloft for her.

- SILVER: 21 km half-marathon

Charlotte Clarke – Competed in Junior Ladies u18
- GOLD: 10 000 m – this was an astonishing effort. Over the last year Charlotte has had to overcome multiple illness and was not able to prepare fully for the champs. She was also up against more senior and experienced opposition but she showed great perseverance and character to push these opponents and she came away with a convincing win.

- 4th 300 m Time trial – 30.166 seconds
- 5th 5000 m Elimination
- 6th 42 km Marathon
- 500 m made the semi-finals
- Overall Grade Aggregate - 3rd
