Agriculture enriching students studies

Lou Heenan —

Students who signed up for the pilot Agriculture Enrichment Programme have enthusiastically embraced learning about different aspects of the agriculture sector

This year has seen the introduction of an Agriculture Enrichment Programme at Roncalli College. Ten Year 11 studies have elected to take this non-credit based enrichment programme in order to gain an insight in the agriculture sector. Students meet with qualified Agriculture tutor Bronwyn Nichols once a week to learn the theory behind the practice. Students have also had some practical sessions out at the William's farm and have had some training on how to become an expert fencer back at school. Over the next few months students will also be introduced to Agribusiness, Agronomy, Animal Handling and possibly a trip to the Temuka Saleyards for the weekly sale!

Thanks to Alliance Group and Farmlands, the students are also keeping a "farmer's diary" so that they can see what things have an impact on the daily life of a farmer.  The students are all enthusiastic about this programme and enjoying the theory and practical aspects of it.

Thank you to Sue and Willy Williams for allowing the students to visit your farm, Alliance Farmers Produce for the diaries and caps and Farmlands for diaries.
